Day 11: June 13th: Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge

Bear? Moo-bear

We were driving along Route 52 in North Dakota and Scott with his Eagle Eye Park Vision spotted my favorite campsite yet.  Again, this was not an actual campground, but it did have some trails, and some cows.  Scott recorded some cute audio of Brooke giggling because when this calf was way off in the distance it looked and moved slightly like a bear.  Okay, so maybe I am slightly bear-phobic because my bear mooed.  One of our favorite authors is Sandra Boynton and Moo Baa La La La is one of our favorite books.  Thus Scott keeps singing, “Moo Bear La La La.”   Oh, and the sun finally showed up.  YEAHH!!!!!!

Day 10: June 12th: Experimental Forest?

Scott came up with the idea of stopping at a farmhouse and asking if we could stay on their land.  That isn’t something I would ever do, but opposites attract, right?  Anyway, on his quest to find a farm we wandered down a gravel road and found an “Experimental Forest”.  Anyone else ever stay at one of these?  The only sign marking the forest was right in front of the overgrown drive.  It had a pit toilet and plenty of wide open land.  We have paid $20 for just as much, and this was free.  We also had some friendly cows lulling us to sleep, and greeting us to another, you guessed it, rainy morning.

Day 9: Shelvin, Minnesota

Okay, so the town is really Shevlin, not Shelvin, but we got a good chuckle out of this.  Scott thought it said Shelvin and said his dad should move there.  Don is a super duper shelver.  He is so much of a shelf maker that the new owner of his old home, which happens to be in our neighborhood, asked Scott what was with all of the shelves.  Every nook and crany is filled with them.  He is very organized and everything has a place.  Well, sometimes a few of them.  Wendy, Scott’s mom, teases that some days he puts her under W for Wendy, M for Meme, or  W for wife.
