Day 13: July 26th, 2014 Moab, Utah to Canyonlands National Park Needles District

Early morning photos at our campsite.  Cody was really into spotting the lizards.  This one happened to pose for us.  After a quick breakfast of cereal we headed to the Island in the Sky Visitor’s Center at Canyonlands National Park.  We scooped up the Junior Ranger books, listened to a ranger talk on geological layers, and then watched the park movie.

Day 8: July 21st, 2014 Grand Lake, CO to Steamboat Springs, CO

After a quick breakfast of cereal we went for a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park just outside of the Green Ridge Campground we stayed at. We hiked the East Shore Trail along Shadow Mountain Lake one hour each way 3.2 miles in total. The kids did a great job. They wanted to keep going, but Scott and I decided that we should probably turn around after an hour. Cody started the hike with rock throwing into the lake. He cracked us up when a few feet into the trail it opened into a forest and he said disappointedly, “Well, I can’t throw any rocks in here.”

Day 20: July 6th, 2013: Flagstaff, Arizona to Sedona, Arizona

So I was able to provide some early morning entertainment for the family.  Scott handed me my camp chair in it’s bag so I could sit down to eat breakfast.  Thankfully I dumped the chair out and didn’t shove my hand in to pull the chair out.  As I dumped my chair out, a little too close to Cody’s head, out popped a furry creature.  Then I squealed.  The mouse never made any noise.  In fact, the mouse stood on this stump and stared at me as if to say, “For goodness sake lady.  Why did you have to get so excited?”  Then he disappeared down the hole next to the stump like Alice’s white rabbit.

Mountain Biking Ester Dome Single Track, Fairbanks AK

7/10/10 update - how sweet the trail is! What’s even sweeter is that April drove me up to the trail head. Thanks to the midnight sun, I didn’t even hit the trails until 8:30 pm. I rode the loop once in each direction. The trails were in great condition and the counter-clockwise flow was great. I posted a few addition pics of the trail head because I had trouble finding it. — I got up early to hit the dirt today. When I finally make it to the trail - 11 miles and I swear a straight up climb to the trail head- the trail was in great shape and flowy. I didn’t get a chance to ride the whole loop due to time. Maybe tomorrow morning…
